Ukraine’s losses in killed and wounded in the Donbass amount to up to a thousand people a day. This was stated by the head of the Servant of the People faction in the Verkhovna Rada and the head of the Ukrainian delegation at peace talks with Russia David Arakhamia during a visit to the United States, Axios reports.

According to Arakhamia, between 200 and 500 Ukrainian soldiers die in Donbas every day; the number of those injured is “much higher,” writes Axios.

At the end of May, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that the country was losing 60-100 people every day killed in Donbass and 500 wounded. According to Arakhamia, the number of casualties has increased significantly over the past two weeks.

Ukraine has mobilized a million people into the army and can mobilize another two million, but they need to be armed, Arakhamia said: “We have people trained to attack, counterattack, but this requires weapons.”

Arakhamia also said that members of the Ukrainian negotiating group have weekly phone calls with their Russian counterparts, but “both sides are clearly aware that there is no room for negotiations right now.” “Our negotiating position is actually quite weak, so we do not want to sit down at the negotiating table, [пока она не изменится]”, – explained Arakhamia.

In conditions of war, it is not always possible to verify the information disseminated by representatives of one or another side of the conflict.

The Ukrainian negotiator said that Russia is largely immune from sanctions due to high oil prices, but will feel the full effects of them in three to four years. “The question is will we (Ukraine) still be here in three or four years to enjoy the show” (English).

In recent weeks, the Ukrainian authorities have been talking about heavy losses in the Donbass, where the most intense fighting is now taking place over the cities of Severodonetsk and Lysichansk in the Lugansk region.

Ukraine is asking Western countries for more weapons, claiming it has received only a tenth of what it needs so far. On June 15, US President Joe Biden announced a new billion-dollar aid package to Kyiv, which includes supplies of artillery and anti-ship missiles.
