The Verkhovna Rada will not consider a bill allowing the Armed Forces of Ukraine to kill deserters
The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine will not consider a bill allowing officers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) to kill deserter soldiers who refused to obey an order or left their positions without permission. This was announced by a deputy from the Servant of the People party, one of the signatories of the withdrawn bill, Alexander Bakumov, RIA Novosti reports.
According to Bakumov, the initiative caused a wide public outcry due to the fact that society “does not fully understand” it. “Now they say that commanders will start killing their subordinates. What nonsense? If society does not fully understand how these norms are implemented in practice, I will agree to withdraw the bill. But if we are having a professional discussion, there should be other messages,” he said.
He clarified that the bill was proposed not for the targeted killing of the military, but to ensure the security of the service. According to the deputy, the society was excited by the fact that the phrase that the use of weapons should not lead to the death of a serviceman was removed from the law. “If a soldier threatens, stands with a grenade, or uses violence against other soldiers, then how to stop a criminal offense? How to use a weapon so that it does not cause death? Yes, none. Therefore, such a norm was proposed, ”Bakumov explained.
At the same time, he emphasized that before “dispersing evil (translated from Ukrainian – “betrayal” – approx. “Tapes.ru”)”, the norm must be analyzed in a professional environment.
Earlier it became known that the deputy of the Verkhovna Rada, a member of the Servant of the People party, Maryana Bezuglaya, introduced a bill suggesting that officers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine be allowed to kill deserter soldiers. Changes could be made to the statute of the internal service of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on ensuring the possibility of stopping criminal offenses in a special period.
