This Sunday, May 22, the kings of Spain celebrated another year of marriage. 18 years ago, the then prince Philip and Letizia Ortiz they said ‘yes’ at the Cathedral of La Almudena, in Madrid, a moment attended by the entire Spanish royal family, as well as representatives of monarchies from all over the world.
Since then many things have changed in the royal couple’s lives. On October 31, 2005, the couple welcomed their first daughter, then Infanta Leonorfuture queen of Spain, and about a year and a half later, on April 29, 2007, they were parents for the second time, again to a girl, the infanta Sofianamed after her paternal grandmother.
On June 19, 2014, after the abdication of the king Juan Carlos, the Prince of Asturias ascended the throne under the name Felipe VI and Letizia became queen consort. At the same time, Leonor inherited her father’s title, going on to receive the treatment of Her Royal Highness, the Princess of Asturias.
