“Compañeras, compañeros, good afternoon to all of you. For me it is a privilege to accompany you today here in Laguna, it is a historical region, a good part of the history of Mexico was made here. Compañeras, compañeros, the time has come, the time has come and here we are with you, thank you”said Foreign Minister Ebrard.
During his visit, he said that President Andrés Manuel López Obrador’s attendance at the Summit of the Americas could not be confirmed.
He said that everything depends on the invitation made by the United States to Cuba, Nicaragua and Venezuela, countries that may not be invited to the ninth edition of the summit to be held next July in Los Angeles in the United States.
“He already said that if they don’t go, he won’t go, but the United States hasn’t sent out the invitations yet, the president explained, that is, we still don’t know if they are going to be invited or not.”Ebrard noted.
The Mexican foreign minister recalled that it was during the 238th anniversary ceremony of the birth of Simón Bolívar, held in Mexico in July 2021, when President López Obrador called on the countries of the Organization of American States to move towards a model similar to the Union Union, and where the United States was exhorted to respect the ideological differences of nations.
“Of respecting Latin America and the Caribbean, not intervening, that is how he stated it, so now that it is the Summit of the Americas, how are you going to be compatible with that? with the country, which in this case is the one that is going to hold the meeting, say this one is not coming and this one is not coming, when we had just resolved it 10 years ago, then what does the president say, you have a proposal on the table of Latin America and the Caribbean so that we go to a European Union, responds at the height of the hand, because since you are responding as if you were 20 years ago, that is the whole point and you are right”, said the head of the SRE.
In the specific case of Cuba, Marcelo Ebrard pointed out that an agreement signed in 2012 in Colombia is in force to integrate Cuba into the Summit of the Americas, an agreement that cannot be rejected by a single country.
Accompanied by the national leader of Morena, Mario Delgado, Marcelo Ebrard participated in several meetings with militants and supporters of the Together We Will Make History coalition.
