Yesterday, Pope Francis appointed Costa Rican Dagoberto Campos Salas, Titular Archbishop of Forontoniana, as apostolic nuncio of Panama.
Campos Salas, 56, was until now apostolic nuncio in Liberia, Gambia and Sierra Leone.
Campos Salas was born in Puntarenas. He was ordained a priest on May 22, 1994, has a doctorate in Canon Law.
He entered the Diplomatic Service of the Holy See on July 1, 1999 and has served in the apostolic nunciatures in Sudan, Chile, Sweden, Turkey and Mexico.
Dagoberto Campos Salas replaces Monsignor Luciano Russo, who on December 18 was appointed Nuncio in Uruguay and who had arrived in Panama on March 1, 2020.
Russso replaced the Polish Miroslaw Adamczyk in Panama, who was appointed ambassador of the Holy See in Argentina, after serving some 26 months in Panama.
