Maxi Rolón, formerly of the Barça and Lugo youth academy, dies in a traffic accident

The Diario La Capital de Argentina explained that he had lost his life along with his brother, Ariel Hernán Rolón (30 years old) in the crash recorded on a highway in Pujato, about 50 kilometers from Rosario. The two Rolón brothers were on their way to rosary beads. The vehicle lost control and ended up crashing into a tree. Both Maxi and Ariel lost their lives on the spot.

Maxi, 27, went through the Football Club Barcelona academy. He auditioned when he was only 10 years old, but It was in 2010 when he joined La Masía. There he remained until 2016, having as his greatest successes a League with Juvenil A and the UEFA Youth League in the 2013/2014 season. Barça has not forgotten him on such a sad day for his family, friends and supporters: “Dismayed by the death of Maxi Rolón (1995), a youth football player for FC Barcelona between 2010 and 2016. We express our deepest condolences and all the support to his family. Rest in peace.”

At Barça he began to take his first steps in football. In La Masía he trained until becoming part of the first subsidiary, Barcelona B. During those years, he also played in the youth ranks of the Argentina national team. With the Albiceleste he came to win the South American sub20 championship in 2015.

The South American team has also lamented his loss: “The AFA greatly regrets the physical loss of the young soccer player Maximiliano Rolón, who knew how to defend the colors of Argentina in the youth teams and who became South American U20 champion in 2015. A lot of strength to their families and loved ones,” the agency said.

At the end of his contract, having even played in the Second Division, he went to Santos. No luck though. He also went back to Spain to play with Lugo, but again without prominence, or the Pubillas Casas of the second Catalan. In addition, he tried his luck at the Argentine Arsenal de Sarandí and at the Chilean Coquimbo Unido. His last team was Ecuador’s Fuerza Amarilla.
