The man who caught an endangered dolphin broke the silence

In the video recorded by a woman in Mar del Tuyú, you can see a man who fished a franciscana dolphin. The animal was on the shore when the individual grabbed it and took it away wrapped in a blanket.

Various environmental organizations complained about the man’s attitude and he was denounced in court for being an endangered species.

Several days after the event, the man identified as Matías broke the silence and defended himself. “I want to make it clear that I did not catch the dolphin, the dolphin got hooked when it was already dead”.

According to his story, his young children felt bad when they saw the dead dolphin, so he decided to take it away to bury it.

He also defended himself regarding his performance saying that was unaware of the illegality of trammel net fishing: “He did not know. I’m sorry about the dolphin, I’m sorry I took it out. For many it was wrong, although for many others it was also good that he was buried. I felt very badly about the complaint they made against me.”

Matías denied being a fisherman and lamented what had happened: “I am a family man, I work, I try to give my children the best; and the best we could do is bury him so that he has the burial that corresponds to any deceased. I was not aware of the Law, which was in danger of extinction. I am not fauna, I am not a lawyer, I am a worker, gastronomic.”
