Pinamar: controversy in an urbanization in the exclusive Costa Esmeralda neighborhood

Within the Partido de la Costa, almost on the border with Pinamar, an intense controversy is being aired at this time that has as its epicenter a series of works that are being projected.

According to complaints from neighbors and opposition councilors, it was decided to move forward with the construction of 100 buildings meters from the sea in an area considered a reserve. “They are going to overwhelm the place from an ecological and environmental point of view,” they indicated. According to what they affirm, the landscape made up of “marine farms” will mutate in a large part of the exclusive property into buildings facing the sea. “A new Bristol”, they point out in relation to what happens in the traditional Mar del Plata beach where some buildings end up blocking the sun.

The point is that the case went to court. Two lawyers and a councilor from Together for Change filed an injunction in the courts of Dolores to stop the works that include felling trees and moving sand.

Councilwoman Evangelina Cordone is one of the complainants. “We have asked the judge to intervene with a precautionary measure, we cannot allow them to overwhelm us with what we have left,” she explained.

There is concern in the neighborhood because they say they are going to build 100 buildings with at least four floors. “There is no running water or sewers,” they detail. And they claim that there will be great ecological damage.

It is estimated that the buildings will house some 4,000 apartments for about 15,000 new inhabitants.

“We found out that the project for the southern area (of the neighborhood) was modified and in the macro lots that were sold as marine farms now they will build buildings. Nonsense, “said one of the complainants, Sergio Bonzo.

It is estimated that the investment is between 800 and 1,000 million dollars.

The complainants point to the developer firm that is the same administrator of the initial urbanization: Fiduciaria de l Costa, Eidico and Asociación Civil Social y Deportiva Costa Esmeralda.

The exclusive neighborhood is located between the sea and Route 11. There are a thousand hectares with 2 thousand houses completed and 450 under construction. And there are 300 families permanently.

Faced with the complaints, the developers assure that the papers are in order and that the environmental impact study approved in 2009 was updated in 2016 with the intervention of the Buenos Aires agencies.

In the midst of the claim, today at 10 residents of the urbanization they will demonstrate at the access to the neighborhood on Route 11. And, in addition, they will make a symbolic hug to the forest that could cease to be if the work progresses. “No to buildings”, reads the call that they circulated on social networks.
