TBILISI, May 14 – Sputnik. Irakli Kobakhidze, chairman of the ruling party Georgian Dream – Democratic Georgia, said that nothing could cause the convicted ex-president Mikheil Saakashvili to be sent abroad for treatment. At the same time, he noted that the authorities should treat Saakashvili in the same way as other prisoners. “If you look at penitentiary institutions, you can probably find hundreds of prisoners with more serious health problems, but in no case is there a question of treatment abroad, as this is absurd,” Kobakhidze said. Since discrimination is prohibited in Georgia, we do not have the right to discriminate against Saakashvili even in a positive way, the rights of all prisoners are equal, he added. Self-harm will not save Saakashvili from prison – Kobakhidze>> According to the Minister of Justice of the country Rati Bregadze, there are no grounds to send Saakashvili for treatment abroad, and there were no such precedents before. Even after Saakashvili’s transfer to a civilian clinic, his mother Giuli Alasania continues to insist on sending her son abroad for treatment. According to her, Saakashvili’s condition is serious, but the conditions for his treatment are better than in the military hospital in Gori. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Justice has repeatedly stated that Saakashvili himself complicates his situation, as he refuses some of the medicines prescribed to him. The health of the ex-president worsened as a result of a 50-day hunger strike, which he announced immediately after his arrest on October 1, 2021. Saakashvili secretly returned to Georgia from Ukraine on September 29, 2021, and on October 1 he was detained in Tbilisi. Returning to his homeland eight years later, Saakashvili visited Batumi and Kutaisi. In addition to the case of illegal border crossing, for which Saakashvili faces three to five years, the Tbilisi City Court is considering two more cases against him – on embezzlement of public funds and on the dispersal of a protest on November 7, 2007. He is currently serving a sentence in two criminal cases – on the beating of deputy Valery Gelashvili and on the pardon of those accused of murdering bank employee Sandro Girgvliani. Read also:

Neither feigning illness nor self-harm will help Saakashvili, Kobakhidze said
TBILISI, May 14 – Sputnik. Irakli Kobakhidze, chairman of the ruling party Georgian Dream – Democratic Georgia, said that nothing could be the reason for sending the convicted ex-president Mikheil Saakashvili abroad for treatment.
For the third day Saakashvili has been in the private Tbilisi clinic “Vivamed”, which serves the penitentiary system.
“Neither feigning, nor self-harming, or anything like that will be the basis for transferring Saakashvili abroad, let alone placing him under house arrest,” Kobakhidze said.
According to Georgian legislation, the convict must serve his sentence on the territory of Georgia. According to the Minister of Justice of the country Rati Bregadze, there are no grounds to send Saakashvili for treatment abroad, and there were no such precedents before.
