Dortmund: Local wants to collect money with “anti-Putin beer” – violent reactions follow
Generate donations for Ukraine with “anti-Putin beer” – that was the idea of a restaurant Dortmund.
But it does not only receive encouragement: the restaurant is out Dortmund receives heavy criticism.
Dortmund: “Piss Off Putin” and “Fuck Putin” – beer with a message
The Dortmund bar “Hopfen & Salz” collected donations for a month in March. Two beers were created for the campaign, which aimed to raise money for aid organizations helping those affected by the war in Ukraine – the “Piss Off Putin” Pilsner and the “Fuck Putin” India Pale Ale.
That is Dortmund:
- First mentioned in writing in 880 (as ‘Throtmanni’)
- Has 588,250 inhabitants (as of December 2019), making it the ninth largest city in Germany
- The largest city in the Ruhr area in terms of area and population
- The Signal-Iduna-Park (home stadium of Borussia Dortmund) is the largest football stadium in Germany with over 81,000 seats
- Other sights: Westfalenpark, Dortmunder U, German Football Museum
- Mayor is Thomas Westphal (SPD)
A crate with 24 bottles costs 39.90 euros plus a deposit. The beers, which were brewed and labeled especially for the fundraiser, were deliberately given a provocative name by the restaurant in order to position itself clearly.
Dortmund: Restaurant collects bad ratings
The restaurant drew attention to the fundraising campaign via social networks. In addition to numerous positive reactions, there was criticism – apparently from Internet users loyal to Putin.
They are currently leaving juicy ratings in the Google reviews of “Hopfen & Salz”. “You’re just pathetic!”, Writes about one and refers to the fundraiser.
“It is very dangerous to eat in this restaurant,” says another, surprising the owner: “Why dangerous? we have delicious beer. Our tip: PISS OFF PUTIN Pils really great and tasty food, what more could you ask for?”

Managing Director Toni Link doesn’t want to be overwhelmed by the negative reactions – after all, the money should go to people in need. 4,500 euros have already been collected so far.
More news out Dortmund:
The pub found its donation recipient in the Bochum-Donezk society.
Since the beginning of the war, the association has been helping those affected with weekly care packages containing medicine, clothing, food, baby food and hygiene items.
As the restaurant announced on Facebook, the sale of the “anti-Putin beers” will continue – the locations “The New Crown Iserlohn”, “Miss Hops” and “Miss Hops Essen” had also sold the beer in March and collected donations. Drinking for a good cause – who says no? (jdo)
