While the hearing for the price of gas was held on Tuesday, where the Government proposed increases in bills from June ranging from 18.5 percent to 25.5 percent in the different areas of the country, yesterday the the meeting to define the increases in electricity rates.
There, the National Executive presented a scheme of increases for users of the Buenos Aires Metropolitan Area (AMBA) -in our region the Province is defined- applicable from next month as follows: an increase of 16.52 percent, on average, for middle class; 6.88 percent for those with a social rate; 10 percent of the clients of Edesur and Edenor (about 400,000 people) will be directly left without subsidies and will have adjustments of 200 percent; the bills of large industries will have a rise of up to 73 percent.
In this way, with a salary index in 2021 of 53.4 percent, those adjustments for the full year should be 21.3 percent and 42.7 percent, respectively, as highlighted again yesterday at the opening of the hearing for the treatment of the new seasonal reference prices of the Seasonal Price of Electric Energy (PEST), applicable as of June 1
The day – to which 49 speakers signed up to participate and finally 23 spoke – was chaired by the Undersecretary of Institutional Coordination of the Ministry of Energy, Guillermo Usandivaras. In the first quarter of the year, the National State will face subsidies in the order of 81.85 percent of the total cost of electricity to supply residential demand.
Based on the criterion of adjusting the rates according to the Salary Variation Coefficient of 2021, a user without the social rate benefit who paid $1,315 in final bill (with taxes) in January, had to pay $1,610 in March and will have to disburse $1,876 to from June 1.
In the case of those who have the social rate benefit, the payments of the final bill with taxes will be $743, $843 and $901, respectively.
