The Food and Economic Safety Authority seized 33.3 tonnes of meat and derivatives and cod for non-compliance with hygiene requirements, lack of veterinary control number and licensing, in the amount of more than 93 thousand euros.
In a statement, the Food and Economic Security Authority (ASAE) said that the seizure resulted from an operation carried out through the Industries Brigade of the North Regional Unit – Mirandela Operational Unit, aimed at cold stores, located in the municipalities of Vila Verde, Vila Nova de Famalicão and Braga.
As part of the action, 33.3 tonnes of foodstuffs of animal origin (meat products and cod) were seized, due to non-compliance with general and specific hygiene requirements, lack of a veterinary control number (NCV) assigned by the Directorate-General for Food. and Veterinary (DGAV) and lack of licensing.
After analyzing the seized products, around 3.1 tons were considered unfit for consumption.
The products had a minimum durability date and expired consumption limit date, in addition to lacking other requirements, so they were sent for processing in a By-Products Transformation Unit.
The suspension of wholesale and storage establishments for foodstuffs of animal origin was also determined.
