The hearings for rise in gas and electricity rates It already started. The companies have presented their proposals and it is estimated that the increase will be 20% from June or at the latest July. This generates uncertainty within society, although the president Alberto Fernandez justified this adjustment alleging that “it is very difficult to think that the economy can continue subsidizing the richest«.
The increases will be segmented by geographic location, another of the points questioned because many people who live in residential neighborhoods do not receive as much monthly income. However, the head of state defined as “a measure definitively very progressive in economic terms, because it makes the one who has, pay”, this decision.
In addition, Alberto Fernández added that “rate increases involve the application of a segmentation, in such a way that the wealthiest 10% who benefit from the subsidies, stop receiving it. It is very difficult to think that the economy can continue to subsidize the richest in terms of energy. When we also see how the energy conflict has been unleashed from the war in Ukraine and how all prices have skyrocketed. We are very convinced that we are on the right path“, emphasized the President according to NA.
Finally, the president clarified that «the weakest sectors will continue to be subsidized» and that «the increases are directly linked to increases in wages. They will never go above. It is not an imposition of the Fund, we are doing it because we believe that it is necessary to do it ». For now, the measure has not been taken, although an agreement could be reached next week.
The increases that Alberto Fernández plans
The manner in which the adjustment to be applied is calculated is subject to the Salary Variation Coefficient. Alberto Fernández’s idea is that the beneficiaries of the social rate have an increase equivalent to 40% of this indicator and those who do not enjoy this benefit pay 80% more. However, during this year there were already increases so they must subtract.
Taking into account what the previous months were, with increases of between 13.7 and 20.5%, the price of gas should grow by 21.3% for those who have a social rate and 42.7% for those who do not throughout the remainder of 2022. This means that if the president approves this 20% increase for June, he will be able to apply a 22.7% more adjustment for ordinary citizens in the remainder of the year.
