Tom Cruise fired Twenty One Pilots from Top Gun before Lady Gaga

It seems that Twenty One Pilots are not the kind of pilots that the Top Gun Academy requires. And it is that the front man of the band stated that they were more than ready to compose the theme for the film, before Tom Cruise decided to dispense with their services. Later it was Lady Gaga who kept the position, her work being praised by the protagonist and producer of the film.

According to an interview that Tyler Joseph gave to the radio program KROQ, the Grammy-winning duo was listed by Paramount to participate in the film’s soundtrack. Even some sequences of the tape were shown by the study. However, Tom Cruise was not a big fan of their sound so they later received notice of their dismissal.

“I was working with the music situation person for the new Top Gun on writing a new song for them, and then I think Tom Cruise came in and fired everyone,” Joseph said. Have you seen that new thing Top Gun has? The trailer has been around for three years, so there have been some revisions and changes, and I was a part of it, so they kept going.”

Tyler said that the studio showed him parts of the film and explained the sound they were going for in the film. However, Twenty One Pilots did not begin to write material for the music of top gun yet, and soon after the tape delays began.

Top Gun: Maverick it was first scheduled for July 2019; after June 2020; then July 2021, until it was finally agreed that it would hit theaters in November 2021. Paramount then decided that the ideal date would be May 2022 and will receive a preview at the Cannes Film Festival before hitting theaters on the 25th. of May.

Joseph Tyler confessed that Paramount executives told him that a wholesale exchange was coming. This exchange resulted in the incursion of Lady Gaga as a collaborator of Hans Zimmer in the musical field of the tape. Finally the result was the song “Hold My Hand” which recently premiered on the platforms streaming most popular music.

“This song is a love letter to the world during and after a very hard time,” Gaga said on social media. “I’ve wanted you to hear it for so long and I’m so excited to bring it to you.”

While Tom Cruise assured that the Gaga-penned song became “the underlying score and heartbeat of our film.” According to the actor, “Hold My Hand” it opened a new panorama for the tape and consolidated its “emotional core”.

Hans Zimmer was the studio’s chosen composer. This in turn required the help of his apprentices Lorne Balfe and Harold Faltermeyer. So between the three they wrote the score of the tape. One that supposedly will marry perfectly with the song vocalized by Lady Gaga. You can listen to it by clicking here.
