The networks were a stir this Tuesday when a recording on the beaches of Mar del Tuyú went viral. A local resident decided to film a man, accompanied by his children, who caught a dolphin called “Franciscana”. After getting it closer to shore, he decided to carry it and wrap it in a blanket. The images show how the lifeless animal was taken.

After the publication of the video, different NGOs and environmentalists went to work. The outrage caused those in charge of protecting the species to seek information on the identity of the man. Also, whoever filmed the entire scene filed the relevant complaint in order to find the person responsible for an illegal act.

The only thing that is known at the moment is that the events took place on 79th Street in Mar del Tuyú. On the part of the environmentalists they expressed the seriousness of the fact: “This species is protected and in danger of extinction. It is a marine animal protected by law, it is a natural monument, what happened is a crime and that is why we need to know what happened,” they said according to NA.

The Argentine Wildlife Foundation posted the video and argued why it is an act prohibited by law. “This person caught a Franciscan, coastal dolphins that are protected, and also proceeded to take the specimen.” A few years ago the province of Buenos Aires created a law called «Natural Monument (Law 14922). Its purpose is precisely to protect this type of species.
