Deputy Itai Hagman, one of the promoters of the law, indicated that the salary could reach a universe of 9 million people, and remarked that the objective is “to eliminate indigence and value the tasks that the labor market does not value”; a proposal highlighted by the former Minister of Social Development and current deputy, Daniel Arroyo.

Regarding financing, the economist said that “this project is not unfeasible, it can be discussed how to finance it”, and stated that it is a “complementary” proposal with the development of the world of work.

In the presentation of the initiative in the Delia Parodi Chamber of Deputies, the legislators were present Natalia Zaracho, Leonardo Grosso Y Federico Fagiolli for the Great Homeland Front; the head of the block of Deputies of the ruling party, German Martinez; the referent of the Movement of Excluded Workers (MTE) and the Confederation of Workers of the Popular Economy (CTEP), John Grabois; and that of Unidad Popular and president of Banco Nación, Claudio Lozano, among other leaders.

What is the Universal Basic Wage about?

The universal basic salary is “a national, non-contributory monthly monetary benefit intended for low-income workers”, whose objective is “to provide a response to the new post-pandemic Argentine labor reality through the expansion of security and the promotion of employment”, according to what emerges from the letter of the project.

In that direction, the leader Juan Grabois pointed out that “all these ideas of going from plans to work are a slogan.” “What you have to do is go from work without rights to work with rights, from work with indigent income to good wages. Because there is work, what there isn’t is employment,” he remarked, adding: “There are some from the Front of All who oppose but I want you to explain why”.
