Mourning in Spanish sport. Ernesto Escolano, a 50-year-old cyclist from Huesca, has died at the Mohammed VI University Hospital in Marrakech as a result of the heart injury suffered during the second stage of the titan desert, disputed on Monday between Merzouga and Ksar Jdaid, a very hard day marked by the intense heat and with 102 kilometers of travel.
The Aragonese runner, number 521 of the race that is still being held in Moroccan lands, needed emergency medical assistance in the second stage, specifically at kilometer 82. The Spaniard was treated by the track health team, who applied first aid to stabilize him, and was later airlifted to the Mohammed VI University Hospital Center of Marrachech.
He passed away in the hospital
A little later, Ernesto Escolano died despite medical efforts, as explained in the Titan Desert organization’s own statement. The cyclist born in Huesca competed in the Master 50 category and wore the Krypteia jersey. He finished the first stage of the Titan Desert in 357th place with a time of 6:35:28, but he could not with the second and has lost his life in Morocco.
From the organization, as well as the participants, medical team, sponsors, journalists and the entire race capsule that accompanies the test, they convey their condolences and affection to their families and friends. The Titan Desert puts on the mourning tie again for the death of a participant, and it is that in 2019 the also Spanish died in the middle of the stage Fernando Civera, 46, also due to “heart failure.”
