The echoes of the major tragedy that had shaken lardero and the whole country half a year ago returned to the barracks of the Civil Guard from Villamediana (La Rioja) at the end of April. The parents of an 11-year-old girl went to file a complaint for the constant harassment suffered by her daughter by a man from lardero who pestered her after school, in the park, and at the bus stop. Once again the stage was Lardero.
Instinctively, the heads of the agents traveled to the past October 28 when Francis Xavier Almeida -who has just been released from prison after spending 23 years in prison for killing a woman and abusing a minor- tricked lex, nine years old, from a park while celebrating the party of Halloween and allegedly strangled him at home. The neighbors had been alerting for weeks about the strange behavior of the man, since then in prison.
Aware of the collective panic that still persists in the municipality and given the seriousness of the events, the Civil Guard designed a device that has shown two things: the “predatory” profile of the harasser and his fixation with the girl.
The operation has had the collaboration of the Lardero Local Police. Her girl claimed that the 41-year-old man chased her saying obscenities. She was wearing a mask, hood and sunglasses.
She began protecting the girl with plainclothes officers who became her shadow. In this way, it was possible to identify the man, certify the harassment and, in addition, approach his personality and his habits.
It was common for him to go out at night and get lost in dark alleys, according to research sources. She moved with two different vehicles and, on many occasions, she drove with her pants down. Inside her car, investigators found open condoms.
In the two weeks that the device lasted, the Civil Guard followed him daily. I watched how he followed the minor and also how he slowed down his car when he passed through parks and schools.
It was vital to gather enough evidence to arrest him and bring him before a judge with sufficient guarantees to get him off the street. They made it. On May 3, he was arrested and, a day later, he was brought to justice.
The magistrate has sent him to prison for harassing minors after the girl recognized him without any doubt and the irrefutable evidence presented by the civil guards. The man, like Almeida, refused to testify both at the police and judicial headquarters.
Lardero has revived, for the second time in half a year, although with a totally different result, the anguish of living with a disturbing man since, the same sources specify, many parents were aware of what was happening.
