David Goffin 48

David Goffin has continued his excellent performance in Madrid last week when he lost after a titanic battle against Rafael Nadal. Today in Rome, our compatriot did take the scalp of a top player: the Pole Hubert Hurkacz had to lose in 2 tiebreaks in the first round: 7-6 (10/8), 7-6 (7/2).

  1. 17h40. Goffin also wins 2nd tiebreak. In the 2nd set, Goffin took the first break of the match, but the Pole reacted with a rebreak. At 5-4 ahead of Hurkacz’s serve, Goffin missed a match ball. So another tiebreak had to decide. The Belgian was supreme in this: he ran 6-1 and used his third match ball: 7/2. †
  2. 4 pm 49. Goffin wins set 1. David Goffin has won the first set in a tiebreak. Each player kept his service, at 6-6 Hurkacz ran out 6-4. That meant 2 set balls.
