Ilzer: "Storm not yet at its zenith"

Christian Ilzer feels in good hands in Graz.

“I don’t see any reason to leave Sturm Graz at the moment. I don’t think we’re at our zenith as a whole,” says the coach of the Bundesliga runners-up on “Talk and Tore” on “Sky”.

Ilzer does not want to pledge loyalty to the club, but also says: “Everyone knows football, but unless something really extraordinary happens, I will definitely be the coach of Sturm Graz next season.”

Osim’s death changed Ilzer’s image of Storm

According to Ilzer, he got to know “the Sturm family” much better in the past few days after the great success and the death of coach of the century Ivica Osim (“the leading figure of this family”) shortly afterwards.

The 44-year-old from Styria, who still has a valid contract in Graz until 2024, explains that being a storm coach is an “honourable task”. His team is hungry for success and enthusiastic. “I can’t think of anything better at the moment.”

In almost two full seasons under Ilzer, a “Sturm fan since childhood”, the Styrians have collected an average of 1.81 points per game and will play in the Champions League qualifier next year.

The trainer once again praised the cooperation with the sporting director, Andreas Schicker, in the highest tones. “The work process, how we work things off, is exactly how I imagine it.”
