AC Fiorentina beat AS Roma 2-0 in the 36th round of Serie A to collect a crucial three-pointer in the battle for Europa League spots.
Already in the 5th minute the Florence show begins. After a foul by Roma defender Karsdop on the edge of the area, Gonzalez coldly scored Roma goalkeeper Patricio to make it 1-0 for Fiorentina.
Roma stop aimlessly in the 11th minute: Bonaventura punishes the uncoordinated guest defense and single-handedly moves into the penalty area. At 2-0, the midfielder scored against Patricio on the bottom left.
Pellegrini (20th) gets the only Roma chance after a foul on Amrabat. The free kick comes halfway, but Fiorentina goalkeeper Terracciano clears the corner.
In the 24th minute, the supposed second Bonaventura goal was not given due to a clear offside, Milenkovic (37th) then tested Patricio again.
Abraham misses best Roma chance
After the change of sides, the Florence team immediately hit the gas again. In the 51st minute, Roma are very lucky: after Cristante and Gonzalez get caught, the VAR does not decide on a Fiorentina penalty.
Two minutes later, Abraham (53.) has a top chance in a header against Lilien defender Julio. The ball circles just a few centimeters past the goal post.
Shortly thereafter, Amrabat (56th) is dangerously free on the opposite side in front of the Roma penalty area and pulls away. Patricio clears the corner kick with his fingertips, which the hosts do not use.
The next good chances don’t come until the closing stages: Zaniolo (83′) wants to put a sharp cross in the middle for Abraham from the right edge of the box, but Terraciano calmly thwarts the chance.
Maleh (84′) made it 3-0 at a tight angle, but Patricio once again saved Roma from a dormant defence.
For the Romans, defeat comes doubly bitter as Fiorentina draw level on points (59 each), with Roma retaining sixth place on goal difference. In addition, the capital city lost for the first time since the fourth day of the 2016/17 season at the Stadio Artemio Franchi.
