The long-awaited day arrived and the III South American Youth Games Rosario 2022 got underway. In this framework, Mayor Pablo Javkin, accompanied by the Secretary of Tourism of the province, Alejandro Grandinetti, welcomed the delegations from the 15 countries participating in the mega event. The activity took place this Thursday, April 28, in the floral calendar of the Parque de la Independencia and was attended by the president of the South American Sports Organization (Odesur), Camilo Pérez López Moreira; the president of Panam Sports, Neven Ilic, and the president of the Argentine Olympic Committee, Mario Moccia, among other authorities and guests.
During the official reception of the delegations, each one represented on the occasion by a couple of athletes, Mayor Pablo Javkin recalled that more than 200 days have passed since the inauguration of the clock that counted down the event, and stated: “More 200 days ago it was another world”. Then he thanked the athletes and visitors for their arrival: “Thank you from the bottom of my heart, we are very happy, very proud, both the country, the province and the city, to receive them and receive them, and to offer them what I believe, and we all believe, will to be one of the most unforgettable games in history.
“We put into value all the heart that this city has to receive them and we are doing it in a place that has a beautiful history in this city”, in reference to the Parque de la Independencia, which he recalled was inaugurated 120 years ago, on the 1st of January 1902, while underlining that it is one of the prides of the city, as well as its emblematic calendar.
“Today I saw the video of the summary of the first day and it seems incredible that we have reached this point,” said the mayor, adding by way of closing: “We all have to heal a huge wound from what we have experienced; sport heals, The world needs to heal, but above all we need our boys and girls to heal, and there is no other better way than sport to make this happen, in a continent that knows how to fight and often knows how to suffer, get up and recover. Thank you very much to each and all, from the heart, up the games and up to Rosario”.
In his turn, the Secretary of Tourism of the Province, Alejandro Grandinetti, began his message by congratulating the work team that was in charge of organizing the games: “The work, the effort, the dedication that they have put into it was fantastic.” . He then thanked the people of Odesur “for being patient” and recalled the first talk they had with Mayor Javkin, Governor Perotti and the Nation’s Minister of Tourism and Sports, Matías Lammens. “I want to do these games, Pablo told us, and we all agreed that we needed to put Rosario and the province of Santa Fe back in the international framework that they deserve,” Grandinetti remarked.
Later, he asked for a round of applause for all the athletes. “For them who are the protagonists and that we hope that when they return to their countries they can take a little bit of this province and this beautiful city with them,” he said, later reiterating his thanks to Odesur “for trusting in Rosario,” and already in the final predict: “Hopefully these are games that are remembered as those that left the pandemic behind.”
For his part, the president of Odesur mentioned: “Rosario and the province of Santa Fe are celebrating. This is beautiful, and for us it is a great joy to be able to see our flag bearers today, our athletes, and to be able to enjoy this beautiful day “, to then share: “We just toured the Parque de los Deportes, which I want to call it that because it’s really spectacular, and what’s most exciting is seeing that many kids enjoying health, education, because that’s what sport is, and We are very proud to be able to work for this to happen”.
“For us, Rosario is already like the home of Odesur, we came to the Beach Games and now to the Youth Games. The number of youth is exploding and that is what we are looking for, that sport be education, that it be health and that our boys have good examples to continue growing. If they are not great athletes, they will be beautiful people, “closed Camilo Pérez López Moreira.
It should be noted that during the ceremony, each delegation received a series of presents, while the flags of the fifteen countries that are the protagonists of the games were raised.
