This week, the temporary suspension of the filming of Being Mortal, an upcoming film written and directed by comedian Aziz Ansari (Master of None). At the time, Searchlight Pictures explained to the production team that the reason was a “complaint” whose circumstances warranted stopping the cameras. We now know that the complaint in question involved a cast member: none other than Bill Murraywho was apparently accused of inappropriate behavior during filming.
The news comes through dead line. His sources claimed that Bill Murray’s alleged misconduct led to the halting of production. Being Deadly. There is currently an ongoing investigation. However, further details of the complaint – or “complaint”, in the words of Searchlight – remain in the shadows.
According to the same medium, the complaint was filed last week. In response, there was a work stoppage on Monday, April 18, which ultimately became the indefinite outage that the studio reported two days later.
“We know everyone is concerned about recent production delays and we want to provide you with an update. Late last week, we became aware of a complaint and immediately investigated it. After reviewing the circumstances, it has been decided that production cannot continue at this time,” Searchlight explained in a letter to the crew from Being Deadly (via dead line). “Our hope is to resume production and we are working with Aziz and Youree [Henley, productor] to determine the appropriate time.
On this occasion, only Bill Murray was accused of inappropriate conduct. However, director Aziz Ansari was also put between a rock and a hard place when in 2018 a woman reported having suffered an improper sexual approach from the comedian. Such remarks generated public debate. But they did not lead to any lawsuit from the alleged victim.
And certainly the actor of Ghostbusters Y lost in tokyo has a certain reputation for being someone difficult to work with. But a very different (and unusual) thing is to see a headline of “inappropriate behavior” next to his name. Perhaps the more the investigation progresses, the more details of the aforementioned complaint will be revealed.
In addition to Bill Murray, Being Deadly features Aziz Ansari and Seth Rogen in the cast. It is based on the 2014 non-fiction book of the same name, written by Atul Gawande. Filming began at the end of March and would have been 50% complete before the recent suspension. Its premiere is planned for 2023, although it remains to be seen if there will finally be significant delays.
Antonio G. Spindola I have very bad memory. Out of solidarity with my memories, I choose to lose myself too. Preferably in a movie theater.
