The President of Aragon Javier Lamban, one of the socialist barons critical of several of the statements and actions of the Catalan Generalitat, has manifested this Tuesday against “indignity” of the agreement between the COE (Spanish Olympic Committee) and the Government of Catalonia for the celebration of the 2030 Winter Olympics: “It cannot be accepted out of dignity”, he said, while describing it as “challenge” the meeting of last April 1 between both organisms, although it has announced that “He’s not going to throw in the towel” and advocate for dialogue.

«Aragón has acted with loyalty to the COE and to Spain. The 2030 Games are an opportunity that cannot be missed, but they cannot accept the proposal out of dignity and not to lose the ability to compete with the Catalan Pyrenees. The agreement that the president of the COE and the ‘miss’ of Catalonia I think it’s an insult to intelligence,” said Lambán.

Javier Lambán explained that Aragón has six stations and 283 kilometers of surface skiable for alpine skiing, while Catalonia has 6 stations and 145 kilometers in La Molina and Masella, respectively.

“We are in equal conditions and, nevertheless, the distribution that the COE informed us It was surprising because, being equal in stations and with more kilometers, Aragon would have one station and 2 tests, while Catalonia 5 stations and 9 tests”, he highlighted in the Informative Breakfasts from Europe Press.

In this sense, the Aragonese president has revealed that when they were called to “participate” in the 2030 candidacy he thought it was a “important opportunity” and that the COE and the Government of Spain “guaranteed” that the candidacy would be promoted “on an equal footing” and with a “balanced distribution of evidence.”

«When this distribution arrives, one is surprised because there is no such equality of institutional treatment. It is absolutely unacceptable. I hope that the COE and the Government of Spain listen to reasons because it is not a question of nuance, but rather a core one. Catalonia and Aragon are the same and that is not equality. I am disappointed », he indicated.

Lambán has opined that the three government technicians, according to him, “were being given the door in their faces” and has affirmed that they did not get up from the negotiating table “out of a sense of responsibility.” “We have acted loyally. They made the appropriate claims and understood that the last decision was political in scope », he pointed out.

Likewise, he regretted that the president of the COE, Alejandro Blanco, considered the technical phase finished, whom he warned before the meeting on April 1 with the president of the CSD, José Manuel Franco, and with the coordinator of the candidacy Barcelona-Pirineus 2030, Mónica Bosch, that they did not agree.

«It makes no sense for Blanco to call a meeting that is not without a component of defiance. The meeting was a challenge, we told him ‘don’t convene, we will continue talking’ », she has recounted.

However, the meeting next Monday, April 25, Aragón has requested it in the COE. “Because we are not willing to throw in the towel. We are going to exhaust the avenue of dialogue. We are delighted that the name of Barcelona appears, but that of Zaragoza must also appear”, said the Aragonese official.
