Children’s chocolate: Salmonella recall! Now the public prosecutor’s office is getting involved

Surprise in every seventh egg. A slogan loved by fans of Children’s Chocolate has always ensured goodwill up to now appears in a different light at the moment.

Because the manufacturer has been calling for days children’s chocolate, Ferrero, numerous products back. Now an entire factory has been closed and the public prosecutor’s office is investigating.

Children’s chocolate: Ferrero has to close the entire factory

Due to salmonella cases in several countries, confectionery manufacturer Ferrero has had to stop production at a factory in Belgium for the time being.

The Afsca supervisory authority announced that it would revoke the production license for the Arlon plant. All products from the factory must therefore be recalled. The Belgian public prosecutor is now investigating against the company.

Ferrero previously announced that salmonella had been detected at the plant as early as December 15, 2021. Salmonella was found in a sieve at the outlet of two raw material tanks. The products made from it were then held back. The filter has been replaced and controls on unfinished and finished products have been increased.

Nevertheless, the recall is still in effect: with immediate effect, the entire production of Kinder Surprise, Kinder Mini Eggs, Kinder Surprise Maxi 100g and Kinder Schokobons that is manufactured in Arlon will be recalled.

Please note: The recall applies to all of these goods, there are no longer any restrictions on the best-before dates!

“This is the only and right decision to ensure the highest level of food safety and eliminate the risk of further contamination. We deeply regret this matter. We would like to sincerely apologize to all our consumers and business partners and thank the food safety authorities for their valuable advice,” says Ferrero on the closure of the plant and the recall of the products.

These products are affected by the recall:

Ferrero acknowledged that there were internal inefficiencies that caused delays in obtaining and sharing information in a timely manner. This affected the speed and effectiveness of the investigations. The plant will not reopen until the authorities have given the go-ahead.

Only children’s products manufactured in Arlon (Belgium) are affected by the recall. The Arlon plant accounts for around 7 percent of the total volume of children’s products manufactured worldwide each year. (fb)
