The confusion aroused days ago by the news that a robot could go on to perform the tasks of a waiter in the near future that continues to give something to talk about later. The positions are clear: those who row in favor of the technological wave and those who, prioritizing labor, advocate a machine-free environment.

A heated debate that was especially relevant in a sector that in recent years has endured carts and carts. Since the closing of bars and restaurants from the restrictions derived from the COVID-19 pandemic to the rise in food prices caused by the war in Ukraine.

The manufacturing company in question claimed that the robot waiter “It does not come to replace the traditional worker, but it can help optimize the resources of the staff in different tasks, such as collecting or sending dishes to the tables”, thus coinciding with the key point that concerns the profession.

However, far from all prejudice, there is a group of waiters who already have a consolidated opinion on the matter in Tenerife. the mexican restaurant Oxalis opened its doors in Los Cristianos, belonging to the municipality of Arona, in July 2021 without tourists or flights to the island, showing courage not only for inaugurating its commitment in the midst of a wave of infections, but for adding to the team a colleague from what most unique: monitored, just over a meter long and called Beautiful which works by software.

His room manager, Abraham Díaz, has told DIARIO DE AVISOS that “at first we were suspicious because it is just another position, but being honest makes the job much easier.” The waiter robot carries the heaviest trays, escorts diners to their tables and even lights up and plays the song Happy Birthday when someone celebrates their birth anniversary. Fortunately, the automaton still relies on human control: “We use a tracking map to direct the robot waiter through the table numbers.”

Oxalis has the advantage of having a large space prepared for the function of the device, which was acquired by its owners “out of simple curiosity”.
