They said that the organ collapsed before the drug cocktail that was found in his blood. The death occurred immediately.

Oliver Taylor Hawkins was in the Foo Fighters group for more than 2 decades and although he passed through the cinema, the drums were his great passion.

The news of the overdose had already been anticipated by Semana itself when accessing a confidential report of what was found by the authorities at the scene of the events:

  • “He indicates having observed traces of a substance similar to cocaine inside the room.”
  • “Taking into account that no signs of violence are observed, an overdose is preliminarily proposed as a hypothesis of death; awaiting scientific technical opinion”.

This was confirmed by the Colombian journalist Luis Carlos Velezwho assured that white powder was found in the room “similar to cocaine”.

Velez added: “In the room, the Colombian authorities found an empty beer can, an open vodka bottle, a Coca-Cola bottle and a few other items that are being analyzed by the authorities. Witnesses at the hotel told me that Taylor Hawkins called the front desk for help due to ‘chest pain’ before being found dead in his room.”

Hawkins, married to his wife Alison and the father of two teenage children, Oliver and Annabelle, had openly discussed his drug and overdose problems years before what the gang called his death. “tragic and premature”.

Four years after joining the Foo Fighters, Hawkins overdosed on heroin and ended up in a coma in 2001, which he later described as the result of “take it too far”.

The Ministry of Health issued a statement confirming that the Foo Fighters drummer had caused a medical emergency after suffering ‘chest pains’:

An ambulance was dispatched to attend to this case. However, when teams from the health department arrived, they found an EMI company mobile response unit on the scene.”

Hawkins joined the band in 1997 after the group had completed their second album, ‘The Color and the Shape’.

Before being in the Foo Fighters, Hawkins played drums for alanis morissettefrom where he was recruited by Dave Grohlthe legendary Nirvana drummer who founded the Foo Fighters in 1994, months after Kurt Cobainthe leader of Nirvanahe will take his life.

After Cobain’s suicide in April, Grohl retired and wasn’t sure if he wanted to stay in the music industry, but he created Foo Fighters, after recording a 15-track demo and signing with Capitol Records.

In the 2021 autobiography ‘The Storyteller,’ Grohl called Hawkins his “brother from another mother, my best friend, a man I’d take a bullet for.”

From the very first meeting, our bond was immediate and we grew closer with each day, each song, each note we played together,” Grohl wrote. “We are absolutely meant to be, and I am grateful that we found each other in this lifetime.
