Problems with falling asleep may appear sporadically or be accompanied by chronic problems. For many people, the scenario is similar – after going to bed, sleep does not come for a long time. As a result, we fall asleep late, and in the morning there is a problem to get up on time. As a result, we lack energy, our well-being decreases, sleepiness appears at the least desirable moment. And when we go to bed again after such a day, sometimes we cannot fall asleep again, this time due to exhaustion.

Problems falling asleep can have many causes that we consider trivial. But they can also result from serious diseases, so long-lasting problems with falling asleep, or even insomnia, should be discussed with your doctor.

Method 4-7-8 to fall asleep faster

If the extended backfill is due to a manageable situation, you need to act. One of the popular methods of reducing the time to fall asleep is the 4-7-8 method. Its author is Dr. Andrew Weil from Harvard University, who took his idea from the ancient technique of breathing control, or pranayama.

According to the researcher, you can simply fall asleep quickly thanks to the regular use of this method.

What is the 4-7-8 method?

Before the session, air the room, dim the lights, mute the phone. Just make it easy for your surroundings to calm down.

  • Lie on the bed in a position that allows you to breathe freely.
  • Close your eyes and rest the tip of your tongue on the palate behind your teeth. Keep your tongue in this position throughout the exercise.
  • Inhale through your nose for four seconds, then hold your breath for seven seconds.
  • Then exhale for eight seconds. Complete up to four breathing cycles.

The 4-7-8 method is deeply relaxing because it distracts the mind from everyday life by focusing on breathing. It soothes the impact of stress, oxygenates the body expressively and of course helps you fall asleep faster.

How often to practice 4-7-8 for it to work?

The creator of the method recommends using it regularly, at least twice a week. Initially, the 4-7-8 method may not bring any spectacular effects, but through exercise, falling asleep may become faster and easier. It is worth trying this method on yourself to see its effect on falling asleep in practice.
