RIA Novosti: Federation Council may consider denunciation of agreements with the Council of Europe on March 23
Details about the possible denunciation of agreements with the Council of Europe have become known, RIA Novosti writes, citing a source in the upper house.
According to the agency, the Federation Council may consider the laws on denunciation at a meeting on March 23. “We expect that by March 23 they will be considered by the State Duma and will come to us,” the source said.
Earlier, the Russian Foreign Ministry called the destruction of the Council of Europe irreversible and announced the termination of Russia’s participation in the organization. The Foreign Ministry said that the Council of Europe has become a platform for incantations about Western superiority and narcissism. After the Federation Council promised to determine a list of European conventions that do not meet the interests of the country, and denounce them.
On February 25, a day after the start of the Russian special operation in Ukraine, the Council of Europe temporarily suspended Russia’s membership in the organization. Luigi Di Maio, the Italian Foreign Minister presiding over the Council, directly connected this measure with the special operation.
