The coach of Defensores de Cambaceres, Carlos Da Ponte, died this Tuesday at the age of 46 after being hospitalized since last Thursday at the Rossi Hospital in La Plata due to a general infection.

“With deep pain, we have to say goodbye. There are no words, champion, the pain is very great. We will miss you every day. Thank you, dear Russian and see you always!”, published the official account of the institution on the social network Twitter .

According to reports, Da Ponte’s health condition had deteriorated in recent hours and several organs remained compromised by the infection, for which the club had requested a “chain of prayer”.

“Russian, we want you on the court. Strength! We ask for a prayer chain for Carlos Alejandro Da Ponte who is having a delicate moment of health,” it was discussed this Monday in the networks.

Da Ponte had taken over as coach of Defensores de Cambaceres, a team that plays in the First D, in February 2021, after having an important step as a player in which he became champion of the Opening Tournament of the First C in 1998 and of the Tournament Closure of the same category in 1999.

Last season, the team finished first in the general table of D but since they did not win either the Apertura or the Clausura, they had to play the Reduced due to promotion, falling in the semifinals.

Both defender and midfielder in his time as a player, he also played for San Telmo, Excursionistas and La Plata FC.
