After slowly getting fit, Elabdellaoui – who played a season for Feyenoord and made seven official appearances – made his return to the Turkish club at the beginning of this year. He also wore special glasses to protect his eyes.

The four appearances so far have been enough for national coach Ståle Solbakken to include the 30-year-old right back in the selection. “It feels great to be called up to the national team again after such a long time,” Elabdellaoui wrote on social media. “It’s always an honor.”

Norway will play two exhibition games against Slovakia and Armenia during the coming international match.
