The House of Representatives of Belarus approved the extension of the lease of two military facilities by Russia
The House of Representatives of the Belarusian Parliament has approved a draft law on extending the use of military facilities by Russia on the territory of the republic. It is reported by Interfax.
The document was sent to the deputies by Defense Minister Viktor Khrenin. The bill provides for the ratification of the protocol between the governments of the two countries. The Protocol extends the term of the Agreement on the procedure for the use and maintenance of the Vileyka radio station, as well as on the procedure for completing the construction, use and maintenance of the Baranovichi node of the missile attack warning system.
In August 2021, President of Belarus Lukashenko approved the extension of the lease of the Baranovichi and Vileyka bases. Agreements on the use of the two facilities by the Russian side were signed 27 years ago, on January 6, 1995.
The radio center “Baranovichi” is located in Gantsevichi, the radio station “Vileika” is a zonal communication point of the Russian Navy.
