The actor and director Arturo Bonín, with a long and recognized career in theater, film and television, died today at the age of 78, as confirmed by his family through social networks.

“With deep sadness we communicate the death of Arturo Bonín who loved his profession as an actor and director and has had the privilege of bonding and sharing beautiful moments with so many people who love and respect him,” his relatives said in a statement.

Born under the name of Arturo José Bonini, on November 11, 1943 in Buenos Aires, the health of the interpreter who worked until very recently on TV (in the series “La persuasión”, headed by his wife Susana Cart on TV Public in 2020; and like Father Ciro in the eltrece strip “La 1-5/18”), he had been deteriorating as a result of lung cancer.

His last theatrical presence was also relatively recent in “An instant without God”, by Daniel Dalmaroni, in which he starred alongside Nelson Rueda.

“In the theater one chooses what one does, it is the most important thing for me within my course, within all this that is my profession, my trade. It is what moves me, it helps me to reflect and it is what I like to do , apart from my house, my wife (actress Susana Cart) and my children, which is life, not the shell of some characters,” he told Télam in February 2019 on the occasion of the premiere of “An instant… “.

Proof of its validity, Bonín had finished filming the film “Conurbano”, by Pablo Yotich, in which he shares the poster with figures such as Pablo Rago, Gerardo Romano, Betiana Blum, María Valenzuela and Mario Alarcón and also took part in the miniseries “María Marta, the crime of the country”, led by Laura Novoa and Jorge Marrale and in the coming weeks will reach the HBO Max streaming platform.

Bonín’s long relationship with the theater was also initiatory and began in the independent circuit to later jump to other stages where his work is remembered in titles such as “Whitelocke, an English general”, “Illia”, “El conventillo de la Paloma” and as a consequent promoter and subscriber to the Teatro X la Identidad cycle, to name just a handful.

But in addition to his recurring theatrical forays, his enormous flexibility was also shown on film sets and in television studios, where he left memorable moments.

In cinema he stood out in “Assassination in the Senate of the Nation” (playing the late senator Enzo Bordabehere), in “Another love story”, the second local film to address a homosexual relationship, and in his leading role as a rural bandit in “Bairoletto , the adventure of a rebel”.

Culture Minister Tristán Bauer, who directed it in “Iluminados por el fuego”, told Télam that “today is a very sad day for everyone due to the departure of Arturo Bonín, an actor and an exceptional man.”

“He was a fighter and a man of integrity, with deep convictions, with whom I was lucky enough to work and thus get to know his talent up close. We accompany his family in this painful moment and of course we will always remember Arturo, as someone very important to the Argentine culture,” stressed the official and filmmaker.

His television path reached a first popular accolade when he starred in a commercial for “Criollitas” cookies, but beyond that angel, he later asserted himself as a narrator in the successful documentary cycle “I was a witness” and in the soap operas “Montecristo” , “Sweet love” and “Stolen Lives”, among some 40 participations.

Once the news of Bonín’s death was known this afternoon, social networks were the territory where his colleagues expressed signs of affection and pain.

The actress and host Georgina Barbarossa published: “Dear Arturo. Dearest companion. Great actor, great person, great husband, great father, what a huge pity. QEPD”; accompanied by a photo together.

The theater director Claudio Tolcachir shared with the statement from the actor’s family: “Arturo Bonín. Very loved and admired.”

While in its official account, the Buenos Aires Theater Complex expressed: “Goodbye dear Arturo Bonín. 1943-2022. A big hug to your family and friends.
