You are currently viewing The A15 Bionic is still so far ahead of Android that Apple plans to use it in the iPhone 14 "normal"

The news has come like a bucket of cold water. Apple plans for the iPhone 14 to have an A15 Bionic processor according to Ming-Chi Kuo, while the iPhone 14 Pro would have an A16 new generation. This has been confirmed by Ming-Chi Kuo from her Twitter account, which has been verified by MacRumors as hers.

This puts on the table a notable change in strategy by Apple. yes in the past iPhones differed by their cameras, chassis and screen, now we would have a new differentiating element: the chip. What could be the cause of this change?

This is how the iPhone 14 would look in 2022

As we said, Apple has never differentiated a new generation iPhone by its chip. The only exception to this unwritten rule is the iPhone 5C back in 2013. A colorful iPhone, with a plastic chassis whose processor was an A6, while the iPhone 5S had an A7, the first 64-bit mobile chip.

However, that change never materialized and was discarded. the following year with the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. Almost ten years later, we could be on the verge of a major change in strategy that would leave the iPhone 14 as follows:

  • 6.1-inch iPhone 14, with A15 Bionic and 6GB of LPDDR4X RAM.
  • 6.7-inch iPhone 14 Max, with A15 Bionic and 6GB of LPDDR4X RAM.
  • 6.1-inch iPhone 14 Pro, with A16 and 6GB of LPDDR5 RAM.
  • 6.7-inch iPhone 14 Pro Max, with A16 and 6GB of LPDDR5 RAM.

Kuo assures that in addition to the chip, both pairs of iPhone 14 will differ not by the amount of RAMbut because of its type. The Pro models have the LPDDR5 compared to the LPDDR4X, which gives 30% energy savings and 50% faster.

Why keep the A15 Bionic in the normal iPhone 14

Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra

It is impossible for us to know the reasons for this change in strategy with the iPhone 14 at this point. Any reason it is purely speculative, but we can deduce some of them. The most logical of all is that Apple has enough of an advantage over Qualcomm to keep its chips for one more generation, just for two models.

We already know that the Samsung Galaxy S22 is considerably less powerful than an iPhone 13. In fact, the iPhone 13 Pro Max it is 35% faster than the Galaxy S22 Ultra, the equivalent model of the Koreans. Apple has more than enough advantage to unfold its iPhone with two chips, one of them new and the other from last year.

Apple has a fairly loose advantage over Snapdragon, not to update part of its new generation with a new chip

We can also deduce that the cameras, which are traditionally the excuse for have a more powerful chip, they will not present big changes in the normal iPhone 14. Without a reason for that power, it becomes absurd to put in a better chip when the existing one is more than competent.

Why Apple is still selling an iPhone SE with a Home button in the middle of 2022

If all this is confirmed, it will be a strategy that will be repeated every year. Where the iPhone “Pro” They will release a new chip and the “normal” models will keep the most advanced from last year. Let’s remember that the Apple Watch Series 7 has almost the same chip as the Series 6, so it would not be completely unprecedented in Apple.
