These fashion trends will dominate in spring 2022
This spring we’re celebrating the return of some Y2K fashion trends. From low-waist pants to ultra-mini skirts, this is all the rage right now.
March 20th marks the official start of spring! Finally time to stow the thick winter coats in the closet and unpack the colourful, light spring fashion. And this year has it all: the 90s and Y2K trends such as neon colors, ultra-mini skirts and low-waist pants are back. These are the biggest fashion trends in spring 2022.
Low-rise pants and skirts
Y2K is back: After more than a decade in high-waist pants and skirts, the low-rise trend is currently experiencing a rebirth. In the 2000s, pants that sat low on the hips – whether jeans, fabric or jogging pants – were popular with style icons of the time such as Paris Hilton (41), Britney Spears (40) and Christina Aguilera (41). Low-rise trousers are already celebrating their return on TikTok, with stars like Bella Hadid (25) and the catwalks of major fashion houses – now also in our wardrobes.
One of the most wearable trends of SS22 fashion weeks is the pleated skirt. The flattering skirt shape is particularly popular in midi lengths – whether it’s patterned, monochrome, colorful or one-tone doesn’t matter.
With the “super-sheer” trend, things are becoming transparent: a transparent glittering dress is a must at any party. But other items of clothing, such as trousers, tops or everyday dresses, are also transparent this spring.
Ultra mini skirts
While midi-length pleated skirts are trending this spring, other styles of skirts are seeing a return of a trend popular with the supermodels of the 1990s: ultra-mini length miniskirts. In other words, those that only just cover the buttocks and sit low on the hips. Large fashion houses such as Prada, Dior and Versace already sent their models down the catwalk in such mini skirts at the spring/summer fashion weeks.
With the onset of the pandemic two years ago, cozy jogging two-piece suits pushed powersuits out of many wardrobes. Now he’s coming back – in the statement color white, like Adele (33) wore in her interview with Oprah Winfrey (68). With strong shoulders, accentuated hips, plunging necklines and black button details, the white two-piece is the perfect outfit for returning to a pandemic-free life.
One of the trendiest colors of the coming spring season is highlighter yellow. The neon color attracts everyone’s attention – especially if you dress in it from head to toe. Designers such as Prada, Erdem and COS showed on their catwalks how to best combine the eye-catching color.
Knitwear is still in trend this spring, although it is becoming a bit coarser and resembles shopping or fishing nets. From vests and tops to trousers, dresses, skirts and bags: net knitwear not only makes it to the beach in spring, but is also perfect for the first bar visits after lockdown.
