The Prosecutor General of Kazakhstan linked the case against the former head of the special services Massimov with the riots
Kazakh Prosecutor General Berik Asylov linked the criminal cases against former heads of the National Security Committee (KNB) to the January riots. The Prosecutor General stated this in the country’s parliament, RIA Novosti reports.
According to him, the former head of the special services, Karim Masimov, as well as three of his deputies, were arrested on charges of high treason, seizure of power and taking a bribe on an especially large scale. The Prosecutor General also said that a total of 3,770 criminal cases were initiated on facts related to the January riots.
Earlier, the Prosecutor General of Kazakhstan named the number of deaths as a result of mass riots in January this year. According to him, as a result of the demonstrations, 230 people died, including 19 military and security officials. In addition, the Prosecutor General said that 3.5 thousand law enforcement officers were injured during the riots.
