Sixteen years after the end of their relationship, Frédéric Beigbeder returned to his meeting with Laura Smet. The writer admitted to having some regrets.
Monday March 14, Frédéric Beigbeder was the guest of Nathalie Levy in As an aside. In the famous salon of Canal +the writer returned to several aspects of his life, including his meeting with Lara Micheli, whose life he has shared for eight years.
In front of an old photo of him and Laura Smet, Frédéric Beigbeder confided in his relationship with Laura Smet, whose life he shared between 2004 and 2006. His relationship between him, aged 39, and the daughter of Johnny Hallyday, 21 years old at the time, had earned her a lot of thoughts.
All the more when Laura Smet made a stay in the psychiatric hospital at the end of this relationshipof which she had experienced the end very badly: “We trained. I, who was older, should have been more careful. I was in a phase of my life where I practiced a certain nocturnal shift”said Frédéric Beigbeder on Canal +. The writer, now married to a 32-year-old woman, admits to having a completely different take on the two-decade-old story: “Twenty years later, we can look at this story with tenderness”he said.
In the magazine SHE in 2017, Frédéric Beigbeder had already expressed his attraction for younger women: “It’s my Dracula side! (…) loving the next generation is a kind of vampirism”he said.
This is not the first time that Frédéric Beigbeder publicly evokes memories of his relationship with Laura Smet. In May 2021, he confided in Michel Denisot on the difficulties he had encountered in his romance with the daughter of Johnny Hallyday: “The life of actresses is something painful and difficult. I have a lot of admiration for people who finally abdicate control. When you’re an actor or actress, you give someone else all the power”he said at the microphone of Europe 1.
Frédéric Beigbeder also had a tender word about his former companion, who relied on her a lot: “I admire Laura Smet a lot, she is very charismatic, she has an innocence and, at the same time, a solitude. Something moving, fragile”he confided.
