You are currently viewing CD sales increased for the first time in twenty years! Those who think they are old now are wrong.

CD sales are not as high as they used to be. The reason for this is attributed by some experts to the transition to digital. We no longer need to buy an album on its physical CD to listen to it. It is possible to access one of the online music platforms on a device and listen to the entire album in high quality. But what hasn’t happened in the last year is happening for the first time; CD sales are booming.

In 2021, CD sales in the United States increased for the first time in almost two decades, according to data released by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), a commercial organization that represents distributors of the music production industry in the United States. Shipments rose from 31.6 million in 2020 to 46.6 million in 2021, with revenue from the format growing from $483.2 million to $584.2 million.

CD sales are still a long way from their peak days in 2000, when almost one billion CD albums were shipped. However, this is still seen as a positive move.
