The benefits of blockchain technology were discussed in several Ethereum.rio panels this Monday, 11. Sebastian Serrano, the founder and CEO of Ripio, a Latin American cryptocurrency exchange, pointed out how countries in the region can use the technology to “build better institutions”.
For Serrano, the decentralized code system would be one of the main advantages of the blockchain, because with it, laws and rules would be imposed without difficulties. “We, in Latin America, suffer from very bad institutions, and it is systematic. But we can use this technology to build better institutions, because its rules are enforced by code, and I think that’s one of the most exciting things happening right now,” he said.
The CEO also cited the example of the United States, which has just passed a totally unprecedented executive order for a regulation of the crypto sector, encouraging innovation. “Now we will have real regulation. After the executive order is signed in the US, the country will have ‘holistic’ regulation, and with that the world’s population will have access to crypto. Approximately 50% of people will have access to crypto,” Serrano said, making predictions.
Present in the same discussion, Marcelo Cavazzoli, CEO of Lemon Cash, pointed out conditions for Sebastian Serrano’s prediction to come true. “I think that speaking the same language as the retail audience is very important for adoption to happen”, said the executive, mentioning the case of the social network TikTok, which in a short time reached 50% of the world’s population. Meanwhile, in DeFi, this number is approximately 0.5%, according to Cavazzoli.
