Mexico.- The president of the Commission for Gender Equality in the Senate of the Republic, Malú Micher, announced that the reform that recognizes as a form of extreme violence against women acid attacksis already advancing in the Upper House of the Congress of the Union.
The legislator from Morena emphasized that the objective of the legislative amendment is to make visible the seriousness of throwing acid at a woman, while seeking to make legal tools available to the victims of this type of attack. through which they can access justice.
“The aim is to make visible the seriousness of this type of aggression, as well as to provide victims with the legal tools that allow them to access their right to justice and be subject to compensation for the corresponding damages,” said Mícher Camarena.

The opinion amending the General Law on Women’s Access to a Life Free of Violence It was endorsed last Friday, February 25, by the Second Legislative Studies Commission of the Senate.
The brunette highlighted that, only between 2010 and 2020, they have registered 9 cases of women who were attacked with acid and other chemical substances thrown at their bodies and faces.
He reproached that, despite this, to date this type of aggression is not considered a form of gender violence, although the objective of said actions is to physically harm the victim, either by disfiguring, crippling, blinding or, in the worst case, depriving him of life.
In addition to this, the Commission of the Upper House approved determining in the General Law of Women’s Access to a Life Free of Violence, that the three orders of government establish procedures that promote the timely and effective care of victims through electronic or remote meansthis so that the attacked do not expose their security, confidentiality and personal data.
During the meeting of the Commission, Senator Malú Mícher described as gender violence the taunts and insults expressed by the driver Chumel Torres on its web portal against the morenista legislator Bertha Alicia Caraveo.
