After Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, many international sports associations immediately took action. The European Football Association immediately moved the final of the Champions League from Saint Petersburg to Paris.
But the international volleyball association FIVB is not following. The Volleyball World Cup, which starts on August 26, will still be hosted in Russia.
“The FIVB is working closely with the Russian Volleyball Federation and the organizing committee and the event will go ahead as planned,” it said in a statement.
“The FIVB believes that sports and politics should be separated. We are monitoring the situation closely to ensure the safety of all participants.”
The FIVB declined to comment on whether it would impose sanctions on the Russian federation, but that chance seems slim after the World Cup decision.
