In Russia, Visa and Mastercard cards will continue to work even in the event of the most severe sanctions. On Saturday, February 26, RIA Novosti was informed by the press service of the National Payment Card System (NSPK).
Restrictive measures will only affect the fact that cardholders of sanctioned banks will not be able to pay with them abroad and on foreign sites. Also, for clients of Promsvyazbank, VTB, Novikombank, Sovcombank, Alfa-Bank, Rossiya and Otkritie banks, operations using Apple Pay and Google Pay will not be available. At the same time, Russians will be able to pay for purchases and services in Russian online stores.
The NSPK added that the funds of all bank customers in the accounts will be saved and all operations will be available.
Earlier it was reported that in addition to banks, 60 leading companies of the Russian military-industrial complex, including aircraft and shipbuilding enterprises, were included in the EU sanctions lists. The EU took these measures after the aggravation of the situation in Ukraine.
On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced that he had decided to launch a special military operation in the Donbass amid reports of a worsening situation in the region and requests from the authorities of the Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics for help.
