The Russian Armed Forces have a sufficient margin of safety for carrying out an operation in the Donbass, and Moscow has taken a balanced approach to assessing its capabilities. This was stated by the former commander of the Airborne Forces, State Duma deputy Hero of Russia Vladimir Shamanov.
“More than enough power. We have a margin of safety – and not a small one. We took a very balanced approach to assessing the possibilities to achieve the set goal. We understood that we would not receive applause, ”said the colonel general. According to him, during the special operation in the Donbass, the experience gained in Syria, in the operation to force Georgia to peace in 2008, and in Afghanistan was taken into account.
Shamanov also noted that today the Airborne Forces have become the prototype of the rapid reaction troops of the 21st century. “Reconnaissance battalions appeared, a special forces brigade appeared,” he specified, noting that the units were equipped with the most modern means of combat.
Due to the situation in the Donbass, Russia launched a military operation on February 24 to protect the Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics (DNR and LNR). During the special operation, the Russian authorities “will seek to demilitarize and denazify Ukraine,” Russian President Vladimir Putin said.
Later it was reported that after the landing of the amphibious assault in the area of u200bu200bthe settlement of Azov in Ukraine, Russian units marched and, without meeting resistance, entered Melitopol in the Zaporozhye region. Prior to this, units of the Russian Armed Forces blocked the Ukrainian cities of Sumy and Konotop. The troops are taking measures to ensure the safety of the civilian population in these cities, as well as in the surrounding settlements.
