The president of Aerolineas Argentinas, Paul Ceriani, said that the driver’s strike is an “irrational and irresponsible” measure. In addition, the official asked the union leaders to review this situation without affecting air traffic. It is estimated that the force measure could affect 140 flights just around the Carnival holiday.
The strike called by the air traffic controllers union (Atepsa) would generate cancellations and delays in flights in the run-up to the long weekend. “In the midst of this successful summer season – Ceriani remarked – they not only harm thousands of passengers but also the entire tourism industry that awaits the arrival of more visitors,” he added.
“After two very hard years for the airline industry, in which all jobs were protected as well as the purchasing power of workers, this measure is irrational and irresponsible, within the framework of the main tourist weekend of the year. ”, he insisted.
For this reason, he asked that they review the situation to “resolve their internal issues without affecting air traffic”, at the beginning of the first year that is projected with a certain normality for the sector since the beginning of the pandemic.
The Association of Technicians and Employees of Protection and Safety of Air Navigation (Atepsa), which brings together air traffic controllers among other professionals, announced progressive measures of force as of February 18. The schedule of actions was communicated to all airlines, which are forced to reschedule their flights and notify passengers.
The general secretary of Atepsa, Jonathan Doino He specified that due to the pandemic there is a lack of personnel that forces workers to carry out tasks with staff well below the minimum security standards established for the country’s airports.
