You are currently viewing The production of industrial SMEs grew by 16.1% in December

The Argentine Confederation of Medium-sized Enterprises (CAME) announced that the production of industrial SMEs registered an improvement of 16.1% in December compared to the same month of 2020, and throughout 2021 it accumulated growth of 22%.

According to the survey of the entity, in the monthly comparison, the activity of the manufacturing industry increased in December by 4.2% compared to November.

In this way, in 2021 industrial SMEs grew 3.8% compared to 2019, “with six sectors that have already recovered their pre-pandemic levels and five that have not,” highlighted the entity’s report.

The sectors with numbers higher than 2019 were Paper, cardboard, publishing and printing (+18.8%); Rubber and plastic (+12.5%); Food and beverages (+7.4%); Substances and chemicals (+7.0%); Textile and clothing (+3.0%) and Metal products, machinery and equipment (+0.5%).

The entity pointed out that the production of the last month of 2021 was driven by year-end consumption, where sectors such as food, clothing, furniture, paper, cardboard, and rubber and plastic products explained the growth.

Regarding the use of installed capacity, it fell from 74.3% in November to 72.7% in December, which represented a drop of 1.6 points and was explained by the incorporation of new machinery in the items clothing and paper and cardboard, editing and printing. In addition, “there were companies that reported that they had to outsource production to meet commitments for having personnel with covid licenses. In relation to December 2020, it rose 3.8 points.”

For its part, the category of Paper, cardboard, publishing and printing grew 79.6% annually in December and 75.1% compared to the same month of 2019, at constant prices, and was the sector with the greatest expansion.

In the case of clothing and textiles, production rose 39.9% annually in December and 35.0% biannually, in the measurement at constant prices, and in the year it grew 40.7% and 3% compared to 2019.
