The Chilean Super Cup had an exciting final but tainted by violence. 33 minutes of the initial stage were played when the Colo Colo and Universidad Católica clashed in the Andes sector of the Municipal Stadium of Concepción: there were melee fights and throwing of all kinds of blunt objects, including a security fence. However, the worst part of the incidents occurred when some fans (are they fans?) used part of the fireworks that had entered the stadium illegally as firearms, pointing them towards their ‘enemies’ in turn.

The absence of police officers in the area of the incidents facilitated the clash. The police entered the gallery just ten minutes after the overflow began, and they put order right away.

By then the referee had already stopped the game and sent the players to the locker room. It was doubted, in fact, that the game would resume.

In the midst of all this, the elected president of Chile, Gabriel Boric, a fan of the Católica, published a tweet referring to what was happening in Concepción: “What a silly thing that is happening in the stadium (aggressions in the stands). They call themselves fans (it doesn’t matter what team they are) and with their behavior they deprive everyone of the spectacle of football. They do not care that there are children or families. We cannot naturalize this. Not well”.

It was after almost 20 minutes that those in charge of providing security assured the judge that there would be no more problems, so the meeting finally continued.
