Russia recorded this Sunday new record of coronavirus cases for the third consecutive day, with 63,205 new infections, 679 deaths and 6,211 hospitalizations in the last 24 hours, reported the national operational center for the fight against the pandemic.
According to data provided by the Government of Russia, the European country with the most deaths from the pandemic, the Saturday had been counted 57,212 infections, while on Friday the number of infections was 49.513.
Moscow, the epicenter of the pandemic in that country, also set a new record this Sunday –in his case, for the fourth consecutive day– with 17,528 new infections.
The vertiginous increase in cases, according to local media, indicates that the country is undergoing a particularly virulent wave due to the Omicron variant.
In the past week, President Vladimir Putin had warned that Russia had barely 14 days to prepare before the effects of the new variant, reason why it urged Increase testing and vaccination.
According to official data, since the start of the pandemic the country has accumulated 11,108,191 infections and 326,112 deaths.
