FC Utrecht easily wins at Sparta

The FC Utrecht players entered the field with a special shirt. The selection wanted to encourage Naoki Maeda in this way. The Japanese was hired this winter, but his period in the Domstad seems to be limited to eleven minutes of play after he was badly injured against Ajax last week.

Without the right winger, Utrecht took the lead after twelve minutes. Sander van de Streek found Anastasios Douvikas and the striker made his first Eredivisie goal since the end of September. Sparta did recover during the first half, but struggled to create great opportunities.

After the break, Utrecht quickly struck for a second time. Othmane Boussaid already missed the chance to make it 0-2 after a minute, but barely sixty seconds later he played Mimoun Mahi and he managed to score. Sparta had little to say and it was a matter of waiting for the 0-3. That fell fifteen minutes before the end, when Van de Streek tapped in after a low cross from Moussa Sylla.

Due to the victory, number seven FC Utrecht is again catching up to Vitesse and AZ, who both suffered a loss of points this weekend. Sparta remains sixteenth in the Eredivisie.
