The Los Santos Astronauts already know four of the rivals they will have in the Caribbean Series, which will be played in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, from January 28 to February 3.
On Saturday night, the Charros de Jalisco, from Mexico, and the Gigantes del Cibao, from the Dominican Republic, joined the Caribbean baseball party.
During the week, the Criollos de Caguas, from Puerto Rico, and the Caimanes de Barranquilla, from Colombia, had already achieved their classification.
The only representative that remains to be defined is that of Venezuela, whose quota is disputed in the Final Series by the Caribes de Anzoátegui and the Navegantes del Magallanes.
The Astronauts of Los Santos was the first team to qualify for the Caribbean Series, by being crowned champions of the Professional Baseball League of Panama (Probeis), by sweeping the Final Series (3-0) against the Chiriquí Federales.
“We have followed up on the teams that have won in their countries. We are waiting for the rosters to draw up a game plan for the clashes that are coming in the Caribbean Series”, said Raúl Domínguez, technical director of the Los Santos Astronauts in an interview given to the Probeis press during training yesterday at Rod Carew National Stadium.
Domínguez confirmed that right-hander Harold Araúz will be the first starter against Puerto Rico on Friday, January 28.
“Harold Araúz will be our first starter. The rest of the rotation will depend on how the first games are played to keep it or change it, “added Domínguez.
For his part, Edwin Moreno, the Astronauts’ pitching coach, confirmed that Enrique Burgos Jr., who played with the Cibao Giants, will be the team’s closer.
