Vaccination pass: Attal denounces "the decline" of the PS, outcry on the benches

POLITICS – The vaccine pass is definitely struggling to pass. While the parliamentarians were going to agree Thursday, December 13 in a joint committee (CMP) after the passage of the text in the Senate, a tweet from Senator LR Bruno Retailleau derailed everything.

The Walkers found it unacceptable for the elected official to tweet the conclusions of the CMP before it was over, adding “no offense to Emmanuel Macron” to welcome the senatorial changes. The majority – accused by LR of taking this pretext to redo a vote and restore the initial text – recorded the failure of the CMP and the text returned to the Assembly for a second reading.

Tense debates until four in the morning

The session began at 3 p.m., Friday, January 14, and ended around four in the morning with a final adoption of the vaccine pass by 185 votes for, 69 against and 8 abstentions, in an electric atmosphere.

During tense debates, as since the beginning of the examination of this text, the night not helping, the spirits were overheated. Olivier Véran, suffering from Covid-19, is not on the bench, it is the government spokesperson, Gabriel Attal, who replaces him.

The deputy Alain David, socialist, challenges the minister on the compulsory vaccination that his group defends. “Why don’t you impose vaccination? In reality, you don’t want to take criminal responsibility for a vaccine incident. There are very few of them, but they do exist and you would be systematically dragged before the courts (…) By dumping yourself on individuals and forcing them to be vaccinated, you clear yourself of this criminal responsibility. And that is regrettable, you do not have the courage of your actions”, attacks the deputy.

Gabriel Attal was stung after these words and replied: “I was shocked by your intervention. It is obviously false if we had a problem with regard to responsibility, we would not have made the vaccine compulsory for caregivers”, denounces the former socialist. “I note that you relay this theory, not as a questioning, but as if it were the truth. Coming from the socialist party, I find that we are in a form of absolute decay”, he launched, accusing the deputy David of taking up “conspiracy theories that we see on social networks in the worst conspiracy accounts ”.

Socialist MP Lamia El Aaraje denounced “particularly serious” remarks. MP Alain David demanded several points of order after his remarks as well as an apology from the minister.

“Let’s stop making popol”

“I want us to have a peaceful debate, let’s stop making ‘popol’ in the hemicycle, that’s not the subject”, claimed Olivier Falorni, deputy for Charente-Maritime, reproaching Gabriel Attal for his comments on the division at LR or on “the forfeiture” of the PS.

The text will be studied in the Senate this Saturday, January 15 afternoon. The government hopes for final adoption over the weekend.
